Description of rotations for fellows
Critical care subspecialty trainees from the University of Toronto rotate through our unit at least once during
their training. They will have already completed training in their primary discipline of internal medicine, surgery, or
anaesthesia prior to becoming critical care fellows.
Fellows are expected to function as supervised "junior staff" during the rotation. They are expected to lead morning rounds on patients admitted to the unit, review new consults with junior housestaff, and provide backup coverage to in-house junior housestaff through home-based call every third night.
In keeping with the educational focus of the rotation, all fellows are excused from clinical duties to attend the CCM fellows half-day education series every Tuesday afternoon. Fellows are expected to contribute to the education of junior housestaff in the unit through informal teaching (on rounds and at the bedside), and through presentations at monthly Morbidity and Mortality rounds (all deaths and complications are reviewed).
